Vulnerability – Android Camera Apps

Security researchers found a vulnerability in the camera apps of Android phones, such as Google and Samsung, which could allow hackers access via a malicious third-party app.  To prove their discovery, researchers created an app to exploit it by bypassing the permission policy and giving access to the phone’s camera.

They were then able to take photos and videos remotely, even when the device was locked, and automatically record audio when the device received a voice call.  Using the GPS data saved with the photos, the device’s location could also be accessed.

A security fix had been issued prior to the flaw being publicly disclosed, but it is recommended to update all applications on your device and turn on automatic updates if you have not already done so.
